Product description

Universal Motor Control with the MLX81339

The MLX81339 is a versatile 3-phase BLDC motor control IC designed for a wide range of applications across multiple industries. It efficiently drives small, sensorless 3-phase fan and pump motors up to 40W. It is ideal for devices such as server cooling fans and residential fans. It also serves as a robust BLDC or Bipolar Stepper motor control IC for precise positioning in automated valves, flaps, and small robotic motors.

The IC is compatible with both PWM and serial control interfaces, making it a flexible motor driver for currents < 2 A. The ability to communicate with an ECU via a digital I2C, UART, or SPI interface, as well as a legacy PWM/FG interface, provides flexibility for integration into existing and new systems.

Its minimal PCB design further enhances its suitability for various industrial applications with space constraints.

The MLX81339 supports a supply voltage range from 5.5V to 26V and features an integrated motor bridge driver. It includes extensive protection and diagnostic features, such as undervoltage, overvoltage, overcurrent, and overtemperature detection and protection. These features ensure reliable operation in demanding environments.

3-Phase Fan & Pump Motors

The IC is great for sensorless speed control, offering a quiet and efficient Field-Oriented-Control (FOC). It can handle motors from 1 m-RPM up to 100k m-RPM. It's used in:

  • Residential fans: bldc ceiling fans, air purifiers, and humidifier fans.
  • Automotive: small bldc fans, blowers, and 3-phase seat fans.
  • Appliances: bldc washer and dishwasher pumps.
  • Industrial: server cooling fans.
  • Tools: bldc cordless garden and power tools.

Automated Positioning

The MLX81339 supports both sensorless and sensored control, ensuring accurate control for geared motors and a reliable startup. It's ideal for:

  • Geared positioning motors.
  • Thermal gas expansion and water cooling valves.
  • Robotic hand motor drivers with position sensors.
  • Automotive components like grille shutters and HVAC flaps.
